by Paul Alfred Enderling (1880 - 1938)
Translation Singable translation by Edward Oxenford (1846 - 1929)

Mondlicht
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Japanese (日本語)
Das Mondschiff segelt am Himmelsmeer
und streift den Wolkenstrand.
Über das nächtige Nipponland
gleitet sein Leuchten her.
In meinem Glase flimmert sein Schein,
der im Kräuseln des Sees sich bricht.
Majestätisch zieht sein Licht
in die Sternenflut hinein.

Moonlight
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
The Moonship sails on the sea of sky,
And skirts the cloudlike strand.
Over the shadows on Nipponland
Glimmers her lamp on high.
Deep in my mirror beams from her rove,
Broken loose from the skysea's height.
With majestic mien her light
Threads the starry stream above.

From a Weingartner score.
