by Armand Silvestre (1837 - 1901)

Chanson d'automne
Language: French (Français)
Toi qui viens frapper à ma porte,
Dis-moi ce que ta main m'apporte,
Pâle automne?
                    -- Une feuille morte.

Le mince présent, sur ma foi !
En me l'offrant, au moins, dis-moi
Ce qu'il veut dire ?
                     -- Souviens-toi

Cette dépouille inanimée,
Qui donc, d'une main parfumée,
Te la remit ?
              -- Ta bien-aimée.

Gage d'amour ou de remords,
Ce bien cher entre les trésors,
D'où vient-il ?
                -- Du pays des morts
