from Volkslieder (Folksongs)

Hiiren peijaat
Language: Finnish (Suomi)
Hiiri kaupalta tulevi
Purrella punaperällä,
Wenehellä vaskisella.
Keitti linnan liepsahutti,
Tytär lintahan lipetti;
Keitti hutun hupsahutti,
Poika huttuhun hupeni.

Siitä hiiri hiihtamahan,
Lyhytpolvi lyyttämähän;
Jänis vastahan tulevi,
Kysytteli lausutteli:
"Minne hiihat hiiri raukka,
Lyhytpolvi lyykyttelet?

"Hiihan mie vähän väkeä,
Kutsun peiasvierahia;
Kuoli kaksi poikoani,
Hukkui huttukattilahan."

"Missä piät peiahasi?"--
"Tuolla piän peiahani,
Puun raossa, maan raossa,
Kahen kantosen välissä."

"Ketä kutsut vierahiksi?"
"Kutsun suolta suovariksen.
Aholta ajoharakan,
Peiposen perehinensä,
Linnun laihan lapsinensa;
Ne mie kutsun vierahiksi."
