Schlaflied für mich
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG

Sleeping song for myself
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
I rock and rock and rock myself to sleep
with dreams by day and by night
and drink the same stupefying wine
as he who sleeps while he's awake.

I sing and sing and sing myself a song,
a song of hope and happiness,
I sing it like him who walks and does not see
that he can nevermore come back.

I tell and tell and tell myself the tale,
the tale of the web of love,
I tell it to myself and yet no longer believe it
for I know: the end is bad.

To myself, I play and play the melody
of the days that are no more,
and free myself from the truth
and act as if I were blind.

I laugh and laugh and laugh at myself
over this my game.
And yet I spin dreams, so confused and muddled
so utterly devoid of every goal.
