Zu Straßburg auf der langen Brück'
Language: German (Deutsch)
Zu Straßburg auf der langen Brück',
  Da stand ich eines Tag's,
Nach Süden wandt' ich meinen Blick,
  In grauem Nebel lag's.

Da dacht' ich mir: dahinter liegt,
  In wunderbarem Reiz
Mit seinen [Alpen]1, seinen Höh'n,
Dein [Heimatland – die Schweiz.]2

Und wie ich's [dacht' und]3 wie ich's sann,
  Da zog ein Knab' vorbei,
Der blies in's traute Alpenhorn
  Der Heimat Melodei.

Da ward mir's kalt, da ward mir's warm,
Rasch sprang ich in die Flut.
[Hinauf den Rhein]4 mit starkem Arm
  Schwamm ich mit frischem Muth.

[Hätt']5 mich nicht der Sergeant geseh'n,
  [Da]6 hätt' es keine Noth.
Jetzt haben sie mich eingebracht,
  Und schießen heut' mich todt.

O liebe Herren, glaubt mir dieß,
  Mich zog ein süßer Ton:
Der Knabe, der das Alphorn blies,
  Der trägt die Schuld davon.

Nun führt hinaus mich vor das Thor
  Und meßt die fünfzehn Schritt'!
Und schießet wacker -- doch zuvor
  Gewährt mir eine Bitt':

Blas't mir das Alphorn [noch einmal]7,
  In wunderbarem Reiz,
Und dann grüßt mir viel tausendmal
  Mein Heimatland, die Schweiz.
