Ein Stromer ich bin!
Leicht ist mein Bündel, 
Noch leichter mein Sinn. 
Hab' ich kein Kreuzer, 
So mausen's mir kein'. 
Glücklich auf Erden 
Sind Stromer allein. 

  Schwärmen, sich härmen
Um Gruß und um Kuß, 
Ringlein am Finger, 
Und Ketten am Fuß --
Profit die Mahlzeit, 
Das nennet ihr Frein? 
Frei sind auf Erden. 
Die Stromer allein.

  Fröhliches Wandern,
Stets bleib' ich dir treu,
Neu wird die Gegend,
Die Freude wird neu.
Wein oder Wasser,
Ein Trunk wird doch mein.
Glücklich auf Erden
Sind Stromer allein!

And a chains upon one's foot --
Lucre as one's mealtime,
That you call marriage?
Free upon earth
Are tramps alone!

  Happy wandering,
I shall always remain true to you,
The scenery becomes new,

Wine or water
