Wir ziehen in die Welt hinaus
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
Wir ziehen in die Welt hinaus
Mit schallend gleichem Schritt,
Und nehmen aus der Vaterhaus,
Nur Muth und Frohsinn mit.

Wir brauchen weder Hof noch Feld,
Noch was den Andern werth,
Wir haben uns nur Eins erwählt,
Dieß Eine ist das Schwert.

Das tauschen wir um keinerlei
Um Hammer nicht und Pflug,
An beiden geht es rasch vorbei,
Doch nicht vorbei am Krug.

Da rasten wir nach Kriegerart,
Sei's auch auf hartem Strunk,
Und waschen uns den Staub vom Bart
Mit einem frischen Trunk.

So tragen wir Strapatz und Plag,
Und sind an Frohsinn reich;
Denn was uns immer treffen mag,
Das trifft uns ja zugleich.

Doch ruft zum Kampf das Vaterland,
Zum Kampf für Haus und Herd,
So sind wir Alle gleich zur Hand
Und schwingen hoch das Schwert.

We set forth out into the world
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
We set forth out into the world
With resounding, matching steps,
And from our father's house we take along
Only courage and a merry spirit.

We need neither farm nor field,
Nor that which others prize;
We have chosen only one thing for ourselves,
And that one thing is the sword.

We do not trade that for anything,
Not for a hammer and not for a plow,
We march quickly past those two things,
But not past the inn.

There we rest as soldiers do,
Even if it be upon a hard stump,
And we wash the dust from our beards
With a refreshing drink.

Thus we bear hardship and trials,
And are rich in merriness;
For whatever may befall us,
That befalls us together.

But when the fatherland calls to battle,
To battle for house and hearth,
Then we are all immediately at hand
And swing our swords high.
