Juninacht
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
O Mondnacht, satt von Düften!
Schwül weht die Luft im Grund,
Von Liebesglück zu träumen
Ist dies die rechte Stund.

Es faßt mein Herz wie Schläfern,
Wie süße Müdigkeit;
Was soll noch Schön'res kommen
Nach dieser Rosenzeit?

Beklagt mir nicht die Blumen,
Gemäht vom Weizenschoß,
Vor Sonnenwende scheiden,
Wär's nicht das beste Los?

Confirmed with Deutsches Dichterbuch aus Österreich, herausgegeben von Karl Emil Franzos, Leipzig: Druck und Verlag von Breitkopf und Härtel, 1883, page 143.

June night
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Oh moonlit night, replete with scents!
The breeze blows humidly in the vale,
This is the right hour
To dream of the joys of love.

It seizes my heart like lulling,
Like sweet weariness;
What more beautiful things can still come
After this time of roses?

Do not lament to me of the flowers
Mown from the bosom of the wheat,
To depart before the solstice,
Would that not be the best fate?
