When the golden shimmer of the stars And the silver light of the moon Breaks forth from the clear floodwaters With a trembling flickering. When the gentle springtime breezes Dally with the blossoming bush, And its balsam scents Then waft about us like the breath of love! A thousand golden fireflies flutter Through the air like a fairy dance, Colourful butterflies rock Themselves upon scented rose branches. And the gentle nightingale Sings of the pain and joy of love, And then Echo's soft throat Breathes back the sweet song! Nature, sunken into slumber, Still seems to be listening, greatly enraptured, And only the surging of the silvery brook Disturbs the holy stillness -- All creatures that live Indulge themselves with happy joy[,] But deep sighs nevertheless Always lift my wounded breast! Songs, scents, star-shimmer Are all brought back by the young springtime, Poor heart, does it then never Bring you your lost happiness, as well[?]
