Herr, zu deines Kreuzes Fuße	
leg' ich flehend meine Schuld;
wollst auf meiner Zähren Buße
schaun Vergebubg, schaun Geduld!
Stärke meiner Ohnmacht Willen,
der nicht ohne dich vermag,
seinen Vorsatz zu erfüllen,
den er ach! so oft schon brach.

Tief, o tief bin ich gesunken,
der ich, wähnend noch zu stehn,
durft aus Dünkels Bechern trunken,
stoltz hinab auf Bess're sehn!
Guter Hirte, komm, erbarme
mein dich, zeuch mich aus dem Schlamm;
daß an deiner Brust erwarme
wieder dein verirrtes Lamm.

Herra, sinun ristisi juurelle
tuon nöyrästi rukoillen syntini;
itkien kadun koko sydämestäni,
tahdothan antaa anteeksi, olla kärsivällinen!
Vahvista voimatonta tahtoani,
joka ilman sinua ei pysty
täyttämään velvoitteitaan,
jotka se on niin usein jo rikkonut.

Syvälle, niin syvälle olen vajonnut,
luulin pysyväni pystyssä,
kun sain maistaa Pimeyden maljasta
ja ylpeästi 
torjuin parannuksenteon!
Hyvä Paimen, tule, armahda
minua, vedä minut tästä loasta;
että eksynyt lampaasi 
saisi taas lämmitellä sylissäsi.
