Trutznachtigall
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
  Ob ihr Wolken dräut,
Und ihr Knospen säumt,
Hab' ich still erfreut
Längst vom Lenz geträumt,
  Muß ich singen schon,
  Muß ich jauchzen schon,
Loben Gott, den Herrn, mit hellem Ton!

  Er vergißt mich nicht!
Läßt's zur rechten Zeit
Mit dem Morgenlicht
Blühen weit und breit!
  Muß ihm singen schon,
  Muß ihm jauchzen schon
Über Thal und Höhn mit hellem Ton!

Trutz‑nightingale
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
  Though ye clouds threaten,
And ye blossoms tarry in coming,
I have, quietly joyful,
Long dreamed of springtime,
  I must already sing,
  I must already rejoice,
Must praise the Lord God with a bright sound!

  He does not forget me!
At the right time,
With the light of morning,
He shall let it bloom far and wide!
I must already sing to Him,
I must already rejoice to Him
Over valley and heights with a bright sound!
