Die Götterbrücke inmitten --
Lass schallen, Riger, dein goldnes Horn! 
Es kommt ein Held geritten. 

Es donnert die Brücke, es tönt das Thor, 
Es grüssen mich Asgards Söhne, 
Mit Bragi schreitet lächelnd hervor 
Idun, die ewigschöne. 

Sie bieten mir Äpfel, sie bieten mir Meth, 
Sie leiten meine Schritte 
Dahin, wo Wodens Hochsitz steht 
In seiner Helden Mitte. 

Es wird mir der Brünne schwere Last, 
Der Helm herunter genommen; 
Allvater winkt, den Erdengast 
Einherier heissen willkommen. 

Schildmaide reichen mir Salz und Brot 
Und schenken mir Saft der Reben. 
Willkommen herrlicher Schlachtentod! 
Fahrwohl du freudiges Leben!

Behind me is the world, Valhalla in front of me,
The bridge of the gods in the middle --
Let your golden horn sound, Riger,
A hero comes a-riding.

The bridge thunders, the gate resounds,
Asgard's sons greet me,
Accompanying Bragi, Idun, the eternally beautiful one
Strides forth smiling.

They offer me apples, they offer me mead,
They direct my steps
To where Woden's high seat stands
In the midst of his heroes.

The heavy burden of my armour,
My helmet are removed from me;
Allfather beckons, the fallen warriors
Bid welcome to the guest from earth.

Shield-maidens pass me salt and bread
And pour me the juice of the vine.
Welcome, glorious death in battle!
Farewell, you happy life!
