Wie dunkel und still! Am Himmel kein Schein! Bin müde, doch will Ich zur Ruh nicht allein. Ob lang auch die Nacht, Ob finster und kalt -- Ich habe durchwacht Die bittersten bald. Ich wurde getraut, So zitternd und scheu, Da schwur er mir laut Die ewige Treu! Nun schleicht, wie ein Dieb, Er Abends hinaus, Und ich hab ihn lieb, Und warte zu Haus. Und kommt er zurück, Dann sag ich kein Wort, Verweht ist mein Glück, Geraubt ist mein Hort. Mir hilft kein Gericht, Drum klag ich nicht an -- Er weiß es wohl nicht, Wie weh er gethan.
