Auch die Nächte mir erklingen;
Als ein grünes Echo kann er
Bis in meine Träume dringen.

Nur noch märchensüßer flöten
Dann die Vögel, durch die Lüfte
Weht es sanfter, sehnsuchtwilder
Steigen auf die Veilchendüfte.

Auch die Rosen blühen röter,
Eine kindlich güldne Glorie
Tragen sie, wie Engelköpfchen
Auf Gemälden der Historie -

Und mir selbst ist dann, als würd ich
Eine Nachtigall und sänge
Diesen Rosen meine Liebe,
Träumend sing ich Wunderklänge -

Bis mich weckt das Licht der Sonne,
Oder auch das holde Lärmen
Jener andren Nachtigallen,
Die vor meinem Fenster schwärmen.

Alors le chant des oiseaux
Est encore plus doux, dans les airs
Plus légers, plus nostalgiques,
Montent les parfums des violettes.

L'éclosion des roses est plus rouge,
Parées d'une jeune gloire dorée,
Elles sont comme les têtes de chérubins
Sur les tableaux du passé.

Alors c'est comme si je devenais
Un rossignol et chantais
Mon amour à ces roses,
En rêve, je chante de merveilleuses notes --

Jusqu'à ce que m'éveille la lumière du soleil,
Ou bien aussi  le gracieux chahut
