Rosendüfte füllen rings die Lüfte;
Seiner harrend schau' ich ängstlich aus.
Wüsst' ich doch den Weg, den er genommen,
Wollte Kornblumen auf den Pfad ihm streuen,
Rosendüfte sollten ihn erfreuen,
Sollten ihm des Pfades Richtung künden,
Auch bei Nacht zu mir, zu mir zu finden.

Note for Rubinstein's setting: when line 6 is repeated, "des Pfades Richtung" becomes "den Pfad, den Pfad ihm"
