No Ljaaen han syng paa den saftige Voll,
og alle Smaablomane slær han i Koll,
og Grase av Roti han sopar.
Det gjeng seg so lett i den doggmjuke Eng;
i Skaarane svingar seg Dreng etter Dreng
og slær, so or Vegen det ropar.

Ja svinga, du Slaattar, og Vollane snøy!
Det angar so godt av det nyslegne Høy,
som Verdi var full utav Blomar.
Det legg seg ein God-daam um Bakke og Bygd;
det er som ei Ørske av Nøgd og av Trygd;
det angar so hjarteleg Sumar.

Og gjev det vil skifta med Sol og med Vind,
so all den Guds Gaava dei godt kan faa inn!
Det vil eg so inderleg beda.
Ja gjev oss ein Terre so god og so traust!
daa tarv me kje fæla den folnande Haust,
og Jol skal me halda med Gleda.

À la fenaison

À cette heure la faux chante sur la grasse prairie
et coupe la tête de toutes les petites fleurs,
et fauche l'herbe au ras des racines.
Le travail est facile dans la douce rosée de la prairie ;
l'un après l'autre les gars lancent leurs coups de faux
et ils frappent, sur le chemin on crie.

Oui, faucheur, remue-toi et rase l'herbage !
Le foin fraîchement coupé sent si bon,
qu'on croirait le monde plein de fleurs.
Il y a une bonne atmosphère sur le coteau et le village
c'est comme une fièvre de satisfaction et de confiance
qui a le profond parfum de l'été.

Et que le soleil et le vent alternent
pour qu'ils puissent rentrer tous ces dons de Dieu !
C'est ma prière la plus sincère.
Oui, donne-nous un beau temps sec et sûr !
Alors je ne craindrai pas les flétrissures de l'automne,
et la joie de Noël nous reviendra.
