Vanha kirkko

Vanha kirkko yksin erämaassa:
lasit rikki, ovet tuskin haassa,
torni huojuu, vettä vuotaa katto,
harjaa peittää tumma sammalmatto.

Vanha kirkko muistaa nuoruuttansa,
jolloin penkit täytti harras kansa.
Silloin kaikui vuoroin saarna, virsi,
murtui joskus synnin synkkä kirsi.

Vanha kirkko on nyt yksinäinen,
niin kuin äiti nöyrä, nyyhkiväinen.
Nurmen alla seurakunta maatuu,
vanhus vuottaa, milloin itse kaatuu.

Alte Kirche
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Finnish (Suomi) 
Eine alte Kirche steht allein in der arktischen Wüste.
Die Fenster zerbrochen, die Türe nicht geriegelt.
Der Turm schwankt, das Dach läßt Wasser durch.
Den First bedeckt ein dunkler, bemooster Teppich.

Die alte Kirche denkt an alten Zeiten,
dann waren die Bänke voll von frommen Leute.
Damals klang es, bald ein Predigt, bald die heilgen Weisen,
und manchmal ist das düstre Joch der Sünd' gebrochen.

Die alte Kirche steht da nun ganz alleine,
einer Mutter gleich, die demutsvoll da weinet.
Unterm Rasen vererdet die Gemeinde.
Die Alte wartet, wann sie selbst ruiniert werden soll.
