In our native valley we gather all our flowers; Where else could I find treasures to compare? It is there that I knew my sweetest griefs; it is there we must love each other, there we must grow old together. Oh! what a delight to walk along these bushes with you, to look over at helpless nests with you, and to see you smile at the same songs that my mother, while spinning, would sing to me in my infancy! How good it is to mix all our loves in this way with my mother and you, to live beneath this thatch! There I will watch the realm of my heart expand and my cherished lindens will shelter it forever.
