Da rauschet der vielgrüne Wald;
Da geht die Jungfrau und klagt ihr Weh, 
Und klagt es dem rauschenden Wald. 

Was klagt die Jungfrau am Aarensee? 
Was klagt sie dem vielgrünen Wald? 
Ach! tief im Herzen da sitzt ihr Weh;
Weiß es nur der rauschende Wald. 

Am Aarensee, am Aarensee, 
Da rauschet der vielgrüne Wald.
Da liegt sie begraben und all ihr Weh. 
Und drüber der rauschende Wald.
