4 Lieder , opus 8

by Egon Kornauth (1891 - 1959)

Score: IMSLP (external link)

1. Zu spät  [sung text not yet checked]

Language: German (Deutsch)
Sie haben dich fortgetragen,
ich kann es dir nicht mehr sagen,
Wie oft ich bei Tag und Nacht
Dein gedacht,
Dein und was ich dir angetan
Auf dunkler Jugendbahn.
Ich habe gezaudert, versäumet,
Hab immer von Frist geträumet
Über den Hügel der Wind nun weht
Es ist zu spät.

2. Traumleben  [sung text not yet checked]

Language: German (Deutsch)
Ich wandle wie im Traume,
Als wäre mein Aug' verhüllt,
Und rings die Welt von düster-
Dämmernder Nacht erfüllt.

Die Menschen wallen vorüber
Stumm und gestaltenlos,
Die lauten Straßen ruhen
Wie in des Todes Schooß.

Die Welt scheint ganz erstorben,
Versenkt in schwarzer Gruft, --
Doch weht es über die Gräber
Weithin wie Rosenduft.

Ich hör's in meinen Träumen
Wie Nachtigallenschlag,
Heimliche Weisen tönen
Wohl über den ganzen Tag.

Dein Auge nur glänzt ferne
Und leuchtet durch meine Nacht,
Wie eine blaue Blüte
In dunklem Felsenschacht.

Um meinen Nacken schlingt sich
Ein [blütenweicher]1 Arm,
Es ruht auf meinem Munde
Ein Frühling jung und warm.

Ich wandle wie im Traume,
Als [wäre]2 mein Aug' verhüllt, --
Du hast mit deiner Liebe
All' meine Welt erfüllt.

Die Welt scheint ganz gestorben,
Wir beide [nur ruhen allein]3,
Von [Nachtigallen]4 umklungen
Im blühenden Rosenhain . . .
