Petit bonhomme traîne sa bosse 
  Sous son habit de laine 
Et rencontre la fée Carabosse 
  Au bras de Croquemitaine. 

  Petit bonhomme leur dit bonjour 
  Fort poliment, ôte sa marotte, 
    Veut se sauver et court, 
Mais Croquemitaine le met dans sa hotte. 

Petit bonhomme n'ira plus cueillir la noisette 
  En sautillant d'un pied léger ; 
  Le couteau brille, la broche est prête : 
  Petit bonhomme sera mangé.

Mais est-ce seulement ce brouillard irisé

De voir si le rideau s'écarte à ta croisée, 
Mais est-ce seulement le brouillard de la pluie 
Ou celui d'une larme entre mes cils ?
