Ei tunnu pakkoa, murhetta,
He kerran kevähän helmassa
Vain liehuu lintujen lailla.

Mut torven merkillä julkisen
Jo taukoo humu ja huiske;
Vain loiske kuuluvi laineiden
Ja metsän huokaus hiljainen
Ja vieno kukkien kuiske.

Mies kansan keskellä hartahan
Nyt haastaa jaloa kieltä,
Tuo ilmi luottehen tenhoisan,
Ja syntysanan niin mahtavan,
Mi usvat väistävi tieltä.

Jäät rintain sana se sulattaa
Kuin aurinko kevään puolla,
Kuin raikas tuuli se humajaa;
On onni, kun sille elää saa,
Sen vuoksi taistella, kuolla.

Ja kaikki kuulevat, paljasna pää,
Niin hiljaa, hengähtämättä,
Ja sydän rinnassa sylkähtää,
Ja kyynel poskella välkälitää,
Pois vierivi näkijättä.

Niin sana siivekäs lennähtää, --
Ylt' ympäri silloin raikuu
Yks riemu määrätön myrskyää,
Ja torvet ylvähät säestää,
Ja "Maamme", "Maamme" se kaikuu.

Ja tietää tahdotko nimen sen,
Mi kaikuu kauaksi kantain,
Kautt' ilmojen, yli aaltojen
Ja vuorten, maiden ja metsien
Ja selkäin, saarten ja rantain?

Siis sielus pohjahan piirrä se
Ja viime hetkehes kanna,
Sit' uskollisesti palvele,
Kaikk' yksin Suomelle, Suomelle
Työs, lempes, henkesi anna!

Se kalleimmista on kallihin,
On äitisi armahainen;
Se elon soi, se sen vaatikin,
Sen kunniaks elää ja kuoliakin
Nyt vanno'os, nuorukainen!

Jo päivyt kullassa sammuupi
Ja vesiin vienoihin vaipuu,
Se valas kallihin kuulevi;
Oi, nähköön heelmät se lempesi,
Yön varjot kerran kun haipuu!
