Was treibt dich umher, in der Frühlingsnacht? Du hast die Blumen toll gemacht, Die Veilchen[, sie]1 sind erschrocken! Die Rosen, sie sind vor Schaam so roth, Die Liljen, sie sind so blaß wie der Tod, Sie klagen und zagen und stocken! O, lieber Mond, welch frommes Geschlecht Sind doch die Blumen! Sie haben Recht, Ich habe Schlimmes verbrochen! Doch konnt' ich wissen, daß sie gelauscht, Als ich von glühender Liebe berauscht, Mit den Sternen droben gesprochen?

Qu'es-ce qui te pousse par ici, dans la nuit de printemps ? Tu as rendu les fleurs folles, Les violettes sont effarouchées ! Les roses, elles, sont rouges de honte, Les lis, eux, sont blêmes comme la mort, Ils se plaignent, hésitent et se figent ! Ô lune chérie, quel pieuses gens Sont quand même ces fleurs ! Elles ont raison, J'ai commis une mauvaise action ! Mais pouvais-je savoir qu'elles observaient, Quand enivré par un amour ardent Je parlais avec les étoiles du ciel ?
