Return to the original list

1. An sie
 (Sung text)
by Simon Anton Zimmermann (1807 - 1876), "An sie", op. 49 (Zwei Lieder) no. 2 [ voice and piano ]
Language: German (Deutsch)
Ob ich Dich liebe? Frage die Sterne,
Denen ich oft meine Klage vertraut.
Ob ich Dich liebe? Frage die Rose,
Die ich Dir sende, von Thränen bethaut.

Ob ich Dich liebe? Frage die Wolken,
Denen ich oft meine Botschaft vertraut.
Ob ich Dich liebe? Frage die Wellen:
Ich hab' in jeder Dein Bildniß geschaut. --

Wenn Du mich liebtest, himmlisches Mädchen,
O dann geständ' ich Dir es auch laut:
Wie ich Dich liebe, daß ich Dich nenne
Stets meinen Engel und bald meine Braut.

Text Authorship:

  • by (Borromäus Sebastian Georg) Karl Reginald Herloß (1804 - 1849), as Karl Herloßsohn, "Irene", appears in Buch der Liebe, in Lieder der Liebe

1.
Language: English
Do I love you? Ask the stars
That often convey my lament.
Do I love you? Ask the roses
That I send to you, dewed with my tears.

Do I love you? Ask the clouds
That often deliver my greetings.
Do I love you? Ask the waves:
I have seen your image in each of them.

If you were to love me, heavenly maiden,
Then I would be able to say, aloud, to you:
How I love you, and that I call you
My angel and, soon, my bride.
