English translations of Drei geistliche Lieder von Oser für Männerchor, opus 50

by Richard Müller (1830 - 1905)

1. In deinem Namen geh' ich aus  [sung text not yet checked]
by Richard Müller (1830 - 1905), "In deinem Namen geh' ich aus", op. 50 no. 1, published 1883 [ men's chorus ], Leipzig: Siegel
Language: German (Deutsch)
In deinem Namen geh' ich aus,
Behüte, Herr, mich Schritt und Tritt!
Mir geht der beste Helfer mit,
Geh' ich in deinem Namen aus.
Und komm' ich nimmermehr nach Haus,
Sei gnädig meiner Seel', ich bitt!
In deinem Namen geh' ich aus,
Behüte, Herr, mich Schritt und Tritt!

In deinem Namen tret' ich ein
Froh wieder durch des Hauses Thür;
Dir, lieber Herr, sei Dank dafür,
Mit Lob und Preis tret' ich hinein.
Du hast behütet all das Mein',
'Nen bessern Herrn ich nie erkür!
In deinem Namen tret' ich ein
Dereinst durch deines Himmels Thür.

1. In Thy name I go forth
Language: English
I go forth in Thy name,
Protect me, Lord, at every step!
The best helper accompanies me
If I go forth in Thy name.
And should I nevermore return home,
Be merciful to my soul, I pray!
I go forth in Thy name,
Protect me, Lord, at every step!

In Thy name I happily once more
Step though the door of my house;
To Thee, dear Lord, be thanks for that,
I enter with praise and thanksgiving.
Thou hast protected everything that is mine,
I could never find a better Lord!
In Thy name I shall someday
Enter through the gateway of Thy Heaven.

2. Wie der Morgenstern durch die Wolken bricht  [sung text not yet checked]
by Richard Müller (1830 - 1905), "Wie der Morgenstern durch die Wolken bricht", op. 50 no. 2, published 1883 [ men's chorus ], Leipzig: Siegel

O schaue hernieder, o leih mir dein Ohr!
Deiner Gnade Schatz senk' in's Herz mir herein
Hellfunkelnd wie Gold und Edelgestein!

2. As the morning star breaks through the clouds
Language: English
As the morning star breaks through the clouds,
Let Thy countenance shine upon me once more!
As the sun shines full of splendour upon Thy house,
Pour upon me as well, Lord, Thy peace!

Let my heart glow as the rose glows,
Let it bloom as the lily blooms beside the water!
Let me grow green, Lord, as the olive tree grows green,
Ah, for my transgressions, for all of them there has been atonement!

  My pleading rises like incense,
Oh look down, oh incline Thy ear to me!
Drop the treasure of Thy grace into my heart,
Sparkling like gold and precious jewels!
