[Das]1 macht, es hat die Nachtigall Die ganze [Nacht]2 gesungen; Da sind von ihrem süssen Schall, Da sind [in]3 Hall und Widerhall Die [Rosen]4 aufgesprungen. Sie war doch sonst ein wildes [Kind]5, [Nun]6 geht sie [tief]7 in Sinnen, Trägt in der Hand den Sommerhut Und duldet [still]8 der Sonne Glut Und weiß nicht, was beginnen. Das macht, es hat die Nachtigall Die ganze Nacht gesungen; Da sind von ihrem süssen Schall, Da sind [in]3 Hall und Widerhall Die [Rosen]4 aufgesprungen.

1. El rossinyol

Això és perquè el rossinyol ha cantat tota la nit; a causa del seu dolç cant, i per el seu so i ressò, han florit les roses. Ella era abans una noia feréstega, i ara reblerta de seny, porta a la mà el barret d'estiu, suportant en silenci la xardor del sol, sense saber ben bé què fer. Això és perquè el rossinyol ha cantat tota la nit; a causa del seu dolç cant, i per el seu so i ressò, han florit les roses.

Meine Mutter hat's gewollt, Den andern ich nehmen sollt'; Was ich zuvor besessen, Mein Herz sollt' es vergessen; Das hat es nicht gewollt. Meine Mutter klag' ich an, Sie hat nicht wohlgetan; Was sonst in Ehren stünde, Nun [ist es worden]1 Sünde. Was fang ich an? Für all' mein Stolz und Freud' Gewonnen hab' ich Leid. Ach, wär' das nicht [geschehen]2, Ach, könnt' ich betteln [gehen]3 Über die braune Haid'!

La meva mare ha volgut que prengués un altre home; el que abans havia tingut, el meu cor l’ha d’oblidar però no vol pas fer-ho. Jo acuso la meva mare, ella no ho ha fet pas bé; el que altrament era honorable ara esdevingut pecat. Què puc fer-hi jo? A canvi del meu orgull i joia m’he guanyat el dolor. Ai, si això no hagués estat així, ai, si pogués anar a mendicar al moreu ermàs!

Ich hör' [die]1 Bächlein rauschen Im Walde her und hin, Im Walde in dem Rauschen Ich weiß nicht, wo ich bin. Die Nachtigallen schlagen Hier in der Einsamkeit, Als wollten sie was sagen Von [der alten, schönen]2 Zeit. Die Mondesschimmer fliegen, Als [seh']3 ich unter mir Das Schloß im Thale liegen, [Und ist]4 doch so weit von hier! Als müßte in dem Garten Voll Rosen weiß und roth, [Meine]5 Liebste auf mich warten, Und ist [doch lange]6 todt.

Sento mormolar els rierols al bosc, d’aquí i d’allà, en la remor del bosc, no sé on sóc. Els rossinyols canten aquí en la solitud, com si volguessin parlar dels bells temps passats. Voleteja el besllum de la lluna, com si al meu dessota veiés el castell a la vall, i és tan lluny d’aquí! Com si, en el jardí ple de roses blanques i vermelles, m’esperés encara la meva estimada, i tanmateix és morta de fa molt temps.
