Els ombrívols núvols suraven cap avall, tan angoixants i opressius, nosaltres dos caminàvem pel jardí, d’un costat a l’altre. La nit sense estrelles era tan sufocant, silent i trista com el nostre amor, creat tan sols per a les llàgrimes. I quan jo havia de marxar i et vaig desitjar bona nit, afligit, desitjava de tot cor la mort per a tots dos.

Un plàcid capvespre davalla damunt els camps;
dolçament la natura s’adorm, al seu entorn
sura el delicat embolcall del crepuscle, i ella
encisadora, somriu.
Somriu com una criatura dormint als braços del pare,
que ple d’amor, es vincla al seu envers, els seus
ulls divins resten amb ella, i exhala el seu alè
damunt el seu rostre.
