Im Walde her und hin,
Im Walde in dem Rauschen
Ich weiß nicht, wo ich bin.

Die Nachtigallen schlagen
Hier in der Einsamkeit,
Als wollten sie was sagen
Von [der alten, schönen]2 Zeit.

Die Mondesschimmer fliegen,
Als [seh']3 ich unter mir
Das Schloß im Thale liegen,
[Und ist]4 doch so weit von hier!

Als müßte in dem Garten
Voll Rosen weiß und roth,
[Meine]5 Liebste auf mich warten,
Und ist [doch lange]6 todt.

Sento mormolar els rierols
al bosc, d’aquí i d’allà,
en la remor del bosc,
no sé on sóc.

Els rossinyols canten
aquí en la solitud,
com si volguessin parlar
dels bells temps passats.

Voleteja el besllum de la lluna,
com si al meu dessota veiés
el castell a la vall,
i és tan lluny d’aquí!

Com si, en el jardí
ple de roses blanques i vermelles,
m’esperés encara la meva estimada,
i tanmateix és morta de fa molt temps.

Schlafe, Liebchen, weil's auf Erden
Nun so still und seltsam wird!
[Oben]1 gehn die goldnen Herden,
Für uns alle wacht der Hirt.

In der Ferne ziehn Gewitter;
Einsam auf dem Schifflein schwank,
Greif' ich draußen in die Zither,
Weil mir gar so schwül und bang.

Schlingend sich an [Bäum']2 und Zweigen
In Dein stilles Kämmerlein,
Wie auf goldnen Leitern, steigen
Diese Töne aus und ein.

Und ein wunderschöner Knabe
Schifft hoch über Tal und Kluft,
Rührt mit seinem goldnen Stabe
Säuselnd in der [lauen]3 Luft.

Und in wunderbaren Weisen
Singt er ein uraltes Lied,
Das in linden Zauberkreisen
Hinter seinem Schifflein zieht.

[Ach, den süßen Klang verführet]4
Weit der buhlerische Wind,
Und durch Schloß und Wand ihn spüret
Träumend [jedes schöne]5 Kind.

Dorm, amor meu, mentre a la terra
ara tot esdevé tranquil i insòlit!
Allà dalt caminen les daurades ramades,
el pastor té cura de tots nosaltres.

Al lluny, es congrien tempestes;
tot sol, damunt la trontollant barqueta,
toco a fora la cítara,
perquè estic sufocat i angoixós.

Entrellaçant-se a arbres i branques,
dins la teva tranquil·la cambra,
pugen, com per escales daurades,
aquests sons, dins i fora.

I un bellíssim noiet
singla per damunt valls i afraus,
toca amb la seva vareta d’or,
murmurejant en l’aire tebi.

I de forma meravellosa
canta una cançó molt antiga
que, en suaus cercles màgics,
segueix la seva barqueta.

Ai, seduït per el dolç so,
lluny, el vent amorós,
i a través de panys i parets el perceben,
somiant, tots els formosos infants.
