Berg' und Burgen schaun herunter
in den spiegelhellen Rhein,
und mein Schiffchen segelt munter,
rings umglänzt von Sonnenschein.

Ruhig seh' ich zu dem Spiele
goldner Wellen, kraus bewegt;
still erwachen die Gefühle,
die ich tief im Busen hegt'.

Freundlich grüssend und verheißend
lockt hinab des Stromes Pracht;
doch ich kenn' ihn, oben gleißend,
birgt sein Innres Tod und Nacht.

Oben Lust, im Busen Tücken,
Strom, du bist der Liebsten Bild!
Die kann auch so freundlich nicken,
lächelt auch so fromm und mild.

Entouré des reflets scintillants du soleil.

Tranquille, je regarde le jeu
Des vagues d'or, leur mouvement ondulant ;
Doucement s'éveillent les sensations
Que je gardais au fond de ma poitrine.

D'un salut accueillant, de ses promesses,
La splendeur du fleuve attire vers le bas ;
Pourtant je le connais, en surface étincelant,
Il cache en son sein la mort et la nuit.

Au‑dessus le plaisir, en ton cœur la perfidie,
Fleuve, tu es l'image de la très chère !
Qui peut aussi aimablement acquiescer,
Et sourire aussi pieusement et doucement.

Da spiegelt sich in den [Well'n]3
Mit seinem großen Dome
Das [große, heil'ge]4 Köln.

Im Dom da steht ein Bildnis,
Auf [goldnem Leder]5 gemalt;
In meines Lebens Wildnis
Hat's freundlich [hineingestrahlt]6.

Es schweben Blumen und [Eng'lein]7
Um unsre liebe Frau;
Die Augen, die Lippen, die Wänglein,
Die gleichen der Liebsten genau.

Il y a dans sa cathédrale une image
Peinte sur un cuir doré ;
Dans le désert de ma vie
Elle a gracieusement rayonné.

Des fleurs et des angelots y planent
Autour de Notre Dame ;
Ses yeux, ses lèvres, ses joues
Sont tout pareils à ceux de ma bien-aimée.
