Und ist mein Schatz im [fremden]1 Land
So soll mich das nicht kränken.
Und [drückt]2 er mir auch nicht die Hand,
So wird er an mich denken. 
Denn der den Schwalben Heimweh gab
Und Nachtigallen Lieder:  
Der führet ihn bergauf, bergab,
Der bringt ihn mir auch wieder.

And though my darling is in a [foreign]1 land,
That shall not aggrieve me.
And if he does not [press my hand]2,
He nevertheless is thinking of me.
For He who gave the swallows homesickness,
And songs to the nightingale,
He leads him uphill and downhill,
And shall also bring him back to me again.
