Mein Liebster mir geblasen hat
Wohl eine Melodei. 
Es gab mir Dinge viele kund,
Das Rosenblatt am roten Mund,
Und war kein Wort dabei.

Und als das Blatt zerblasen war,
Da gab ich meinen Mund ihm dar
Und küßt an ihm mich satt. 
Und viel mehr Dinge that noch kund
Der rote Mund am roten Mund,
Noch viel mehr selbst als das Rosenblatt.

Avec un frais pétale de rose,
Mon amoureux m'a joué
Toute une mélodie.
Il m'a fait savoir bien des choses,
Le pétale de rose sur la bouche rouge,
Et cela sans dire un mot.

Et quand le pétale fut déchiré,
Je lui donnai même ma bouche,
Et je l'embrassai à satiété.
Et c'est bien plus de choses que fit savoir
La bouche rouge sur la bouche rouge,
Bien plus encore que même le pétale de rose.

Wie eine leise Glocke klingt
Die Sehnsucht in mir an;
Weiß nicht, woher, wohin sie singt,
Weil ich nicht lauschen kann.
 
Es treibt das Leben mich wild um,
Dröhnt um mich mit Gebraus,
Und mählich wird die Glocke stumm,
Und leise klingt sie aus.
 
Sie ist nur für den Feiertag
Gemacht und viel zu fein,
Als daß ihr bebebanger Schlag
Dräng in die Lärmluft ein.
 
Sie ist ein Ton von dorten her,
Wo alles Feier ist;
Ich wollte, daß ich dorten wär,
Wo man den Lärm vergißt.

2. Nostalgie

Pareille à une petite cloche
La nostalgie se rappelle à moi ;
Je ne sais si elle chante ici ou là,
Car je ne peux lui prêter l'oreille.

Elle me rend la vie impossible,
Résonne bruyamment autour de moi,
Et à la longue la cloche se tait
Et meurt lentement.

Elle n'est faite que pour les jours de fête
Et elle est bien trop fine
Pour que son coup tremblant et craintif
Traverse les atmosphères bruyantes.

C'est un son qui arrive ici venant de loin,
Où tout n'est que fête ;
Je voudrais être là-bas,
Où l'on oublie le bruit.

Als nachts ich überm Gebirge ritt,
Rack, schack, schacke mein Pferdchen,
Da ritt ein seltsam Klingeln mit,
Kling, ling, klingelalei.

Es war ein schmeichlerisch bittend Getön,
Es war wie Kinderstimmen schön.

Mir wars, ich streichelt' ein lindes Haar,
Mir war so weh und wunderbar.

Da schwand das Klingeln mit einemmal,
Ich sah hinunter ins tiefe Tal.

Da sah ich Licht in meinem Haus,
Rack, schack, schacke mein Pferdchen,
Mein Bübchen sah nach der Mutter aus,
Kling, ling, klingelalei.

3. Chanson de la jeune sorcière

Je chevauchais de nuit au-dessus des montagnes,
Rack schack, schacke, mon petit cheval,
Soudain une étrange sonnerie nous accompagna,
Klingling, [klingling]1, klingelala. 

C'était une mélodie câline et implorante
Elle était belle comme la voix d'un enfant.

Pour moi c'était comme caresser une douce chevelure,
C'était si douloureux et merveilleux.

Quand la sonnerie disparut tout d'un coup,
Je regardai en-bas, dans la profonde vallée.

[Alors]2 je vis de la lumière dans ma maison,
Rack schack, schacke, mon petit cheval,
Mon petit garçon cherchait des yeux sa mère,
Klingling, [klingling]1, klingelala.
