Die Myrte still und hoch der Lorbeer steht,
Kennst du es wohl?

Möcht' ich mit dir, o mein Geliebter, ziehn.

Kennst du das Haus? Auf Säulen ruht sein Dach,
Es glänzt der Saal, es schimmert das Gemach,
Und Marmorbilder stehn und sehn mich an:
Was hat man Dir, du armes Kind, gethan?
Kennst du es wohl? 
                   Dahin! Dahin
Möcht' ich mit dir, o mein Beschützer, ziehn.

Kennst du den Berg und seinen Wolkensteg?
Das Maulthier sucht im Nebel seinen Weg;
In Höhlen wohnt der Drachen alte Brut;
Es stürzt der Fels und über ihn die Flut.
Kennst du ihn wohl?
                    Dahin! Dahin
Geht unser Weg! o Vater, laß uns ziehn!

Luminose le stanze, hanno splendido aspetto,
Statue di bianco marmo sembrano domandare:
Oh povera fanciulla, chi ti ha fatto soffrire?
Dimmi tu lo conosci?
Laggiù! Laggiù io,
Vorrei andare con te, o difensore mio!

E tu conosci il monte coi suoi alti sentieri?
Li percorrono i muli, fra le nebbie, sicuri;
In spelonche dimorano Draghi di antica stirpe,
Scrosciante cade l'acqua sopra ripida rupe!
Dimmi tu lo conosci?

Percorrerò la strada con te, o padre mio!

Und bekümmert sieht der Schiffer
Glatte Fläche rings umher.
Keine Luft von keiner Seite!
Todesstille fürchterlich!
In der ungeheuern Weite
Reget keine Welle sich.

il mare riposa senza un moto,
e il marinaio scruta inquieto
la liscia superficie che lo circonda.

Da nessuna parte arriva vento!
Un quiete mortale che fa spavento!
Nel vasto spazio tutto intorno
Neppure un'onda si muove un poco.
