La paix désolante Est trop longue, Nous nous sommes séparés, Ma bonne épée ! Tandis que je goûtais Le vin dans les caves, Tu rouillais pendue Au mur toute seule. De château en château J'essayais les vins, Tandis que séchait Ton sang. Finalement s'est allumé Le chaud combat, Mon épée, et il est venu Ton temps. J'affûte ta lame Jusqu'à un éclat brillant, Je te laisse chanter Le sifflement de la mort. Dans la fumée de la poudre à canon Le travail rugit, Nous avons, ô sabre, Échangé nos joies. Dans le vin bouillonnant, Mon acier assoiffé, Bois tout ton saoul, goûte De cœur en cœur. Pendant que tu goûtes Le sang rouge, Elle se dessèche Ma gorge dans la fournaise.
