Cuatro Últimas Canciones

Song Cycle by Richard Georg Strauss (1864 - 1949)

Word count: 265
Original language: Vier letzte Lieder
1. Frühling [sung text checked 1 time]
In dämmrigen Grüften
Träumte ich lang
Von deinen Bäumen und blauen Lüften,
Von deinem Duft und Vogelsang.

Nun liegst du erschlossen
In Gleiß und Zier,
Von Licht übergossen
Wie ein Wunder vor mir.

Du kennst mich wieder,
Du [lockest]1 mich zart,
Es zittert durch all meine Glieder
Deine selige Gegenwart.

1. Primavera
En el interior de oscuras grutas
 soñé por largo tiempo
con tus árboles y tus cielos azules,
con tu fragancia y el canto de tus pájaros.

 Ahora apareces desplegada
 con espléndido ornato,
 inundada de luz,
 como un milagro ante mí.

 Tú me reconoces,
 me abrazas tiernamente.
Percibo a través del temblor de todos mis miembros
 tu sagrada presencia.

3. Beim Schlafengehen [sung text checked 1 time]
[Nun]1 der Tag mich [müd]2 gemacht,
Soll mein sehnliches Verlangen
Freundlich die gestirnte Nacht
Wie ein müdes Kind empfangen.

Hände, laßt von allem Tun,
Stirn vergiß du alles Denken,
Alle meine Sinne nun
Wollen sich in Schlummer senken.

Und die Seele unbewacht
Will in freien Flügen schweben,
Um im Zauberkreis der Nacht
Tief und tausendfach zu leben.

4. Im Abendrot [sung text checked 1 time]
Wir sind durch Not und Freude
Gegangen Hand in Hand,
Vom Wandern ruhen wir [beide]1
Nun überm stillen Land.

Rings sich die Täler neigen,
Es dunkelt schon die Luft,
Zwei Lerchen nur noch steigen
Nachträumend in den Duft.

Tritt her, und laß sie schwirren
Bald ist es [Schlafenszeit]2,
Daß wir uns nicht verirren
In dieser Einsamkeit.

O weiter, stiller Friede!
So tief im Abendrot,
Wie sind wir wandermüde --
Ist [das]3 etwa der Tod? --

4. En el crepúsculo
Entre medio de penas y alegrías
hemos caminado de la mano;
de vagar descansemos
ahora sobre la silenciosa tierra.

Alrededor nuestro declinan los valles
y el aire se oscurece ya,
únicamente dos alondras alzan su vuelo,
soñando en la atmósfera perfumada.

Acércate y déjalas cantar;
es ya el tiempo de dormir.
No vayamos a perdernos
en esta soledad.

¡Oh, amplia y silenciosa paz,
tan profunda en el crepúsculo!
¡Qué cansados estamos de caminar!
¿Será esto acaso la muerte?
