Già riede primavera

Set by Giovanni Paisiello (1740 - 1816), "Già riede primavera", 1782, first performed 1782, from opera Il barbiere di Siviglia, no. 13 [Sung Text]

Note: this setting is made up of several separate texts.

Già riede primavera
col suo fiorito aspetto;
già il grato zeffiretto
scherza fra l'erbe e i fior.

Tornan le frondi agli alberi,
l'erbette al prato tornano;
sol non ritorna a me
la pace del mio cor.

 ...

Text Authorship:

  • by Pietro Antonio Domenico Bonaventura Trapassi (1698 - 1782), as Pietro Metastasio, "La primavera", written 1719, appears in Canzonette, no. 1

Io piango afflitta, e sola,
misera pastorella,
non la perduta agnella,
ma il pastorel Lindor.

Note: there are stage directions after the above text in Paisiello's music as follows:

Ascoltando l'aria, Bartolo s'addormenta.
e Rosina ripiglia l'aria.
