Alle die wachsenden Schatten

Set by Johanna Müller-Hermann (1878 - 1941), "Alle die wachsenden Schatten", op. 9 (Drei Chöre) no. 3 (1911), first performed 1911-1914 [ mixed chorus ] [Sung Text]

Note: this setting is made up of several separate texts.

Alle die wachsenden Schatten
Haben in eins sich verwoben.
Mit reinen Strahlen glänzt ein Stern
Einsam am Himmel droben.

Die Wolken träumen so schwer und tief;
Tautränen im Auge die Blüt entschlief.
Seltsam im Laube der Linde
Flüstern die Abendwinde.

Text Authorship:

  • by Marie Herzfeld (1855 - 1940), "Alle die wachsenden Schatten"

Based on:

Hügel in dämmernden Weiten
sind wie mit Schleiern behangen.
Von Ost ein matter Silberschein
will bald das Tal umfangen.

Die Vöglein schlummern in lauer Nacht,
dufttrunken entschwebte der Falter sacht,
heimlich in leisen Wellen
raunen verborg'ne Quellen.
