Die Blume neigt ihr Haupt

Set by Friedrich Heinrich Himmel (1765 - 1814), "Die Blume neigt ihr Haupt", 1814, published 1880, from Gesänge aus Tiedge's Urania, no. 12 [Sung Text]

Note: this setting is made up of several separate texts.

Die Blume neigt ihr Haupt
zur mütterlichen Erde;
sie fragt nicht, ob ein Morgenrot
zu irgendeinem Lenz
sie wieder wecken werde.
Der Mensch nur fühlet seinen Tod.

  • by Christoph August Tiedge (1752 - 1841), appears in Urania, in Vierter Gesang (Unsterblichkeit)

Was irdisch ist, gehört der Erde;
Das Heilige gehört dem Himmel an. -
Sein werd' ich, weil ich bin. Triumphgesang, erschalle!
Erschalle weit in die Unendlichkeit hinein,
Daß von den Sonnen laut mein Jubel wiederhalle!
 ... ! ich bin; und darum werd' ich sein!
