Matrosenlust

Set by Carl Banck (1809 - 1889), "Matrosenlust", published 1839, from 3 Lieder, no. 3, Hamburg, Schuberth und Co. [Sung Text]

Note: this setting is made up of several separate texts.

Lustiger Matrosensang
Töne laut das Meer entlang!
Bald im Süden bald Im Nord
Sing' ich hier und singe dort,
Werf' die Grillen über Bord.

In der Woge nassen Bauch
Blas' ich meines Pfeifchens Rauch.
Fischlein springt im Sonnenschein,
Seehund schwimmt uns hinterdrein,
Und die wilden Möven schrein.

Werfen wir die Anker aus,
überall bin ich zu Haus'!
Becher gebt und Mädchen her,
und ist dann mein Beutel leer:
Fort, hinaus aufs hohe Meer!
