Im Sommer
Language: German (Deutsch)
O weiche Luft voll Blumenduft,
O Vogelsang der Auen,
Wie sehnt ich bang mich Monde lang,
Zu lauschen und zu schauen!
Nun lacht die Erde um mich her
Im Sommersonnenscheine --
Der kleine Finke schlägt nicht mehr,
Die Primel verblühte am Raine!
Die Rosen blühn aus [vollem]1 Grün,
Mit lichtem Thau begossen,
Die Sommerpracht ist aufgewacht,
Die Knospenwelt erschlossen.
Was scheint die Flur nur heut so leer?
Ich wandle still alleine --
Der kleine Finke schlägt nicht mehr,
Die Primel verblühte am Raine!

In summertime
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Oh, soft air full of the scent of flowers,
Oh, birdsong of the meadows
How I anxiously yearned for many moons,
To harken and to hear!
Now the world smiles about me
In the summer sunshine --
The little finch no longer sings,
The primula along the marge has faded!
The roses bloom from out of the [lush]1 greenery,
Watered with bright dew,
The splendour of summer has wakened,
The world of the buds has been revealed.
Only why does the meadow seem so empty today?
I walk alone, silently --
The little finch no longer sings,
The primula along the marge has faded!
