 Zwei schwarze Vögel seine Blicke sich wiegen,
 Die mit den Adlern um die Wette fliegen.
 Lange Wimpern schatten ihre Glut,
 Wie Weidengesträuch, das vor einem Waldsee ruht.
 Seine Hände leuchten schlank;
 Blasser Erinnerungen sind sie krank.
 Aber die Lippen hat er schmalrot zusammengebissen,
 Als wollten sie nichts von Küssen
 Und nichts von Lächeln mehr wissen.
 Weh, sie sind wie des großen Räubers gedoppeltes Schwert,
 Das rotsingend durch meine schlaflosen Nächte fährt. -

 Immer, wenn ich morgens in den Spiegel sehe, werde ich an Sie denken.
