Da steh' ich im Kreise Der Mägd'lein so stumm, Es schweifen die Blicke, Die kalten, ringsum. Ich sehe manch feines, Holdsel'ges Gesicht -- So 'n liebes wie Deines Gewahr' ich doch nicht. Manch Mädel, das lächelt So fragend mich an: Was stehst Du so einsam, Verlorener Mann? Trost will ich gewähren, Wenn Trost Dir gebricht! -- Mein Herzleid zu heilen Vermag sie doch nicht. Durch die Welt will ich schweifen Ohne Rast, ohne Ruh; Die offene Munde Heilt doch nicht mehr zu. Durch die Welt will ich wandern Bis 's Herze mir bricht -- Denn was ich verloren Das find' ich doch nicht.
