  Trautlieb Vögelein! 
Auf den schlanken Tannen droben 
Ungestört den Herrn zu loben, 
  Könnt' auch ich so glücklich sein!

  Hellklar Waldbächlein! 
Mit melodisch süßem Singen 
Ungeseh'n durch's Moos zu dringen, 
  Könnt' auch ich so glücklich sein! 

  O wie muß dir sein, 
  Frischroth Waldblümlein! 
Heimlich still im Grün zu glühen, 
Schmerzenslos dann zu verblühen! 
  Könnt' auch ich so glücklich sein!

To praise the Lord undisturbed.

  Bright, clear brooklet in the forest!
With melodically sweet singing
To penetrate unseen through the moss.

  Fresh, red floweret in the forest!
With secret stillness to glow in the greenery,
To fade away then painlessly!
