Ruhig ist des Todes Schlummer

Language: German (Deutsch)
Ruhig ist des Todes Schlummer
Und der Schooß der Erde kühl,
Da stöhrt unsre Ruh kein Kummer
Nicht der Leidenschaften Spiel;
Unsre Sorgen groß und klein
Schlummern alle mit uns ein.

Über unsern Hügel schwinget
Die Vergessenheit den Stab,
Und der Schmähsucht Stimme dringet
Nicht ins stille dunkle Grab;
Fehler die uns hier besiegt,
Werden dann nicht mehr gerügt.

Unsre Seufzer, unsre Thränen,
Werden ewig dann gestillt,
Unsre Wünsche, unsre Sehnen,
Alles, alles wird erfüllt.
Herzen die sonst heiß gewallt
Liegen fühllos dann und kalt.

Läg' auch meines von den Sorgen
Dieses Lebens unempört,
In der Erde Schooß verborgen
Wo nichts seinen Frieden stört! --
Kühles Grab, o wenn nimmst du
Mich in deine stille Ruh?
