by Heinrich Heine (1797 - 1856)
Translation by Gérard Labrunie (1808 - 1855), as Gérard de Nerval

Auf Flügeln des Gesanges
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  CAT DAN DUT ENG ENG FRE FRE ITA
Auf Flügeln des Gesanges,
Herzliebchen, trag ich dich fort,
Fort nach den Fluren des Ganges,
Dort weiß ich den schönsten Ort;

Dort liegt ein rotblühender Garten
Im stillen Mondenschein,
Die Lotosblumen erwarten
Ihr trautes Schwesterlein.

Die Veilchen kichern und kosen,
Und schaun nach den Sternen empor,
Heimlich erzählen die Rosen
Sich duftende Märchen ins Ohr.

Es hüpfen herbei und lauschen
Die frommen, klugen Gazelln,
Und in der Ferne rauschen
Des heiligen Stromes Well'n.

Dort wollen wir niedersinken
Unter dem Palmenbaum,
Und Liebe und Ruhe trinken,
Und träumen seligen Traum.

Language: French (Français)  after the German (Deutsch)
Sur l’aile de mes chants je te transporterai ;
je te transporterai jusqu’aux rives du Gange ;
là, je sais un endroit délicieux.

Là fleurit un jardin embaumé
sous les calmes rayons de la lune ;
les fleurs du lotus attendent
leur chère petite sœur.

Les hyacinthes rient et jasent entre elles,
et clignotent du regard avec les étoiles ;
les roses se content à l’oreille
des propos parfumés.

Les timides et bondissantes gazelles
s’approchent et écoutent,
et, dans le lointain, bruissent
les eaux solennelles du fleuve sacré.

Là, nous nous étendrons
sous les palmiers dont l’ombre nous versera
des rêves d’une béatitude céleste.
