Wohl neigt nach goldner Sonne
Sich stumm die Blum' der Au,
Doch spricht von ihrer Wonne
Im Kelch der helle Tau.

Halt' ich dich Lieb' umwunden,
Gedrückt ans Herze ganz,
Schweigt Lippe fest gebunden
Spricht nur des Auges Glanz.

Ein armes Herz  entschlagen
So plötzlich aller Pein,
O Liebe! kann nichts sagen,
Das kann nur stille sein.

Truly the flower of the meadow,
Mutely inclines itself toward the golden sun,
Yet in its calyx the bright dew
Speaks of its joy.

When I hold you, beloved, entwined,
Pressed to my heart completely,
My lips fall silent, tightly sealed,
Only the brightness of my eyes speaks.

A poor heart delivered
So suddenly from all pain,
O my love! cannot say anything,
It can only remain mute.
