Sie tragen Mohn im goldnen Haar
Und singend dreht sich Paar um Paar
In wundersamen Reigen --
Nur einer steht so ernst bei Seit',
In seinen Augen wohnt das Leid,
Auf seiner Stirn das Schweigen.

O Traum, der meine Nächte füllt,
Der meinen Tag in Thränen hüllt,
Willkommen doch, willkommen!

La lune guette à travers les arbres.
Alors ils montent d'un profond abîme,
Alors leurs douces bouches chuchotent tout autour,
Ce sont les rêves, les rêves.

Ils portent un pavot dans leurs cheveux d'or,
Et en chantant ils tournent, couple après couple,
Dans une merveilleuse ronde --
Un seul reste de côté, bien sérieux,
Dans  ses yeux habite la souffrance,
Et sur son front le mutisme.

Ô rêve, qui remplit mes nuits,
Qui enveloppe mes jours de larmes,
