Die Knospe träumte von Sonnenschein,
Vom Rauschen der Blätter im grünen Hain,
Von der Quelle melodischem Wogenfall,
Von süssen Tönen der Nachtigall,
Und von den Lüften, die kosen und schaukeln,
Und von den Düften, die schmeicheln und gaukeln.

Und als die Knospe zur Ros' erwacht,
Da hat sie mild durch Tränen gelacht
Und hat geschaut und hat gelauscht,
Wie's leuchtet und klingt,
Wie's duftet und rauscht.

Als all ihr Träumen nun wurde wahr,
Da hat sie vor süssem Staunen gebebt
Und leis geflüstert: Ist mir's doch gar, 
Als hätt ich das alles schon einmal erlebt.

La rose éveillée

Le bourgeon rêvait de la lumière du soleil,
Du bruissement des feuilles dans le vert bocage,
De la mélodieuse chute des vagues de la source,
Des douces notes du rossignol,
Et des brises qui câlinent et bercent,
Et des parfums qui caressent et voltigent.

Et lorsque le bourgeon s'éveilla en rose,
Il rit doucement à travers ses larmes,
Et regarda, et écouta autour de lui,
Comme tout brillait et sonnait,
Comme tout embaumait et bruissait.

Alors que tous ses rêves devenaient réalité,
La rose se mit à trembler d'un tendre étonnement
Et murmura doucement : il me semble même
Avoir déjà vécu tout cela un jour.
