Liebster, o Liebster! komm, sage mir's doch:

Dearest, oh dearest! come, tell me already:
Have you remained faithful to me, and do you still love me?
I would find no more rest, and would find no peace,
For you know, you are all in all to me!
Only look into my eyes, and look into my heart,
Woe! I would perish of misery and pain!
Dearest, oh dearest! for you alone
Are my treasure to which I refer eternally!--
Dearest, oh dearest! you sweet child!
I cannot tell you so hastily and quickly!
For I would go on and on, and would find no end,
I would need as many words as there are stars!
Dearest! you must abide and wait obediently,
Until the Rhine flows back to its source,
Over which a snowy raven flies:
Then you shall know how much I love you!
