't Regent
(Sung text for setting by R. Herberigs)
 See original
Language: Dutch (Nederlands)
't Regent, 't regent rechte nêerwaard,
heel den dag; geen zonne en zie 'k,
noch beneveld noch aan 't spertelen
door de wolken. 't Jaar is ziek:
't sukkelt, op zijn' laatste voeten
stuipende, en zal sterven moeten:
    eer veel tijd
zijn 't oud jaar wij weêrom kwijt.

 ...

't Regent, 't regent lange steerten,
  rechte neêrwaard; zonder staan
houdt het, van den vroegen morgen
  tot den laten avond, aan!
Aller heiligen, aller zielen
biddag heet mij neêr gaan knielen:`
    'Requiem!'
  roept mij kerk- en klokkenstem.

Ruste en vreê zij allen dooden,
bidde ik; zij dat levende is
mede ontfermigheid geschonken,
  bijstand en vergiffenis,
tot dat, vrij van alle vlagen,
vrij van natte en drooge dagen,
    eeuwig al
  onze ellende staken zal!

Spelling changes used by Herberigs: spertelen -> spartelen ; ruste -> rust ; allen -> alle
