Se reposent dans ce vivier
Où mourut autrefois Narcisse.

Bei der düsteren Grotte, 
wo man die süße Luft einsaugt,
streitet die Welle mit den Kieseln
und necken sich Licht und Schatten.

Diese Wellen, ermüdet von der Anstrengung,
der sie sich auf den Kieseln unterzogen haben,
ruhen sich im Teich aus,
wo anderntags Narcissus gestorben war.

Die Schatten dieser rosigen Blüte
und der hängenden Binsen
scheinen dort in den Träumen
des schlafenden Wassers zu sein.
